I’ve been coaching junior roller derby for 20 years now. It brings me so much joy to see the skaters not only play a pretty impressively hard sport but also find themselves as young adults in the process. So, when someone called me up to fill a position as an auto shop teacher it was an easy yes and an absolute privilege to be offered such a specialized position. I get to explore, create and repair real vehicles with my classes while teaching them how to save some money by doing their own fixes.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMost of the memorable moments are the times when a student is struggling with a difficult project and finally gets it. The most memorable was when a student swapped and engine in their Jeep. They put a ton of time into it and it wouldn't start until they figured out the issue with some investigating. When it finally fired up there were high fives and cheers all around.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would install the best home shop so I can create fun projects at home for class. We would also have the best year-end pizza party and maybe finally get that project '68 Dodge Dart I've been eyeing.
