Connect Tell us why you became a teacher

For starters I have a passion for the subject that I teach, U.S. History. History is full of lessons on how we as a nation have grown, faced challenges and evolved. History is filled with amazing stories about incredible individuals, movements and events. Besides having a heart for history, more importantly, I have a heart for kids. Simply put, I love to make kids laugh, feel loved and let them know they’re appreciated. When kids come into my class they feel safe and in a place they’re loved.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My first ever group of seniors graduating. I taught them in 7th grade and part of 8th grade. These were my COVID babies. They went home for spring break and I never taught them again. I have never experienced such heart ache when I realized I wouldn’t see them in my class again. 4 years later seeing them graduate, students running up, recalling memories together, I knew I created a lasting impact. Knowing I played a small role in their growth was truly fulfilling.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My wife and I just had a little girl in December and with $25,000 I would love to save for her education. I would love for her to choose any school or program that she wants so that she can chase her dreams. Setting up a 529 plan, or something similar, $25,000 would be a great start. Also this money could also be helpful for a savings/emergency fund. Having baby and all those bills are not cheap for two teachers.
