Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I looked at my past experiences and everything led me to the world of education. I’ve worked as a camp counselor and Assistant Director, I was a TA for a biology laboratory class at college and I taught environmental education at a 4H center. Every experience was backed by wanting to push students to their next level of thinking and experience.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moment in teaching was this past school year. I currently teach AP environmental Science and I push my students to give back to the community so I created a project where my high schoolers worked in groups of 3-5 and created a science lesson using the AP and elementary standards that could be used at the neighboring elementary school. The smiles that were on the elementary schoolers faces were stretched from ear to ear because they were learning and engaged.

What would you do with the $25,000?

The $25,000 would be used for a few separate purposes. 1 purpose would be to replenish my school supplies that I go through every year. Another purpose would be to create a college fund for my newly born daughter so she doesn’t have to worry about student loans when pursuing a higher education.
