Tell us why you became a teacher

Desmond Tutu expressed that “[my] humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together”. Teaching has given me the opportunity to have a sense of meaning and purpose that appreciates growth in community and self. My goals of doing some good by stringing together life lessons, academic content, experiences, are guides. Efforts to simply “do good” gives the opportunity to collaborate with a greater community of change which opens the door to many experiences, challenges, and family.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I led my entire high school in nationally recognized environmental reform efforts, fighting against destructive mining threats to the Okefenokee Swamp. Through on-site visits, planning, and advocacy at the Georgia Capitol, we championed lasting protections for this vital ecosystem. This was transformative, not only for my students mentally but for the broader communities impacted by our work. Prior COVID years, I loved teaching 50 black/ brown 5th grade boys, and making many K-12 inventors clubs

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would establish a scholarship fund in honor of my father, enabling students to afford certifiable exams and skill-building at the earliest opportunity. This initiative would remove financial barriers, empowering young learners with credentials that open doors to future success. Additionally, I would invest in a start up, focused on serving underserved populations and communities, ensuring equitable access to quality education, connections, and career pathways.
