I am grateful to have the opportunity to teach our future and to build strong character in those who will be our future.
Thank you for supporting Ashton Chisholm in this year's competition. Your donations and participation will benefit The Planetary Society in their mission to advance space exploration, inspire discovery, and empower the next generation of innovators.
In Grade 12, I discovered my passion for teaching while tutoring classmates for their diplomas. I had never truly believed in myself until I helped others learn and realized teaching was my purpose. After eight years as a teacher, I became a Vice Principal, and now, three years as Principal, I've seen firsthand the power of supporting a community of lifelong learners. With an incredible staff by my side, we achieve remarkable things for our students every day.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching moment was collaborating with local nonprofits like Gas City Kiwanis, Praxis, and Golden K Kiwanis Club, alongside fellow educators, to offer students a unique ranch experience outside Medicine Hat.Together, we provided students the opportunity to learn about environmental stewardship, helping endangered ferruginous hawks by building nesting structures, and understanding the crucial role of the valley’s creeks and water in sustaining local wildlife and plant life.
What would you do with the $25,000?My goal for the $25,000 prize is to support my staff’s professional development, enabling us to elevate the great work happening at our school. I aim to strengthen our efforts in fostering creative, entrepreneurial thinking in students, helping them become critical thinkers and leaders. I also would be grateful for the support with my family and stepchildren.
