Tell us why you became a teacher

When I was in 7th grade my mom homeschooled me. She had not taken algebra in 20 plus years so she took the course alongside me. Watching her teach herself and become invigorated by the act of learning made me want to spread a love of learning to other people.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

A few years ago I taught a young man algebra 1. He came in to meet before school as often as possible. Despite his intense efforts, he continued to fail test after test. Nevertheless, he did not give up. He continued to come by and ask how to alter his study methods. His progress was slow and steady. Two years later I had him again in precalculus. His work ethic had not waned and through his diligence he managed to find what worked for him. He ended up acing the course and becoming a peer tutor.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would pay off debt, put some towards my daughter’s college fund, put some towards saving for another baby, and then travel with my husband.
