Tell us why you became a teacher

I graduated with a film degree and in between film production jobs I would substitute teach. It was just a paycheck at first. But, something about being in a classroom just felt right to me. I started long term subbing and was put into many roles, loving each one after the next. Then I got paired as a one on one with a student with multiple disabilities and that is when I realized I was meant to help others. Ever since then, I haven't left the classroom.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

After subbing, I ended up creating a few video course in my district with a budget of $0 and a Film Degree. After writing curriculums, I entered Alternate Route and now im pursuing my Masters in Education. My class is something I cherish and something I want my students to cherish as well. Knowing my class started as nothing and watching it grow is what it's all about. Most of my students come back and take other courses I teach and that is an honor to me.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I teach Video Production out of a classroom which is unheard of. We don't have a studio, no sound proof walls, just a classroom, some cameras, and editing software. I'd use part of the money to buy advanced equipment for my students and redo a space to fit our filming needs a little better. I am grateful for what I have and the students have fun but with your help, the students can reach their full potential. The rest of the money would be put away for my children's college funds.
