Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because the educators I had as a child made a profound impact on my life. Their guidance, encouragement, and care shaped who I am today. Inspired by their example, I strive every day to be the kind of teacher who fosters growth and confidence in my students. My goal is to make a difference in the lives of children in my community, just as my teachers did for me, and to provide them with the same support that helped me succeed.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Over my 14-year career, I’ve worked at several schools, but the most memorable and rewarding experience has been at my current school, Santa Rosa Academic Academy. For three years, I helped host our Angel Tree Christmas gift drive, providing multiple wish list gifts for over 75 children each year. Knowing we could help families create a memorable Christmas for their children and bring joy to our students during the holidays has been an incredibly fulfilling and priceless experience.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I received these funds, I would first pay off my student loans and some credit card debt. I would also invest in my school and classroom. As an educator at a Title 1 school, the needs of my students go beyond the curriculum. I would use the funds to provide snacks, shoes, and clothing for children in need, ensuring they have what they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Supporting their well-being is essential for their growth and success.
