I became a teacher because I was once a student with a learning disability, struggling to find my place. Thanks to two incredible teachers, Mrs. Naper and Mrs. Castano at Queens Lutheran Church in Astoria, NY, I found the support and encouragement I needed to thrive. Their dedication inspired me to become the teacher who empowers students with disabilities, helping them believe they can achieve just as much as anyone else, just like I did.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience is coaching Special Olympics. Watching my students receive their gold medals and seeing their faces light up with pride is truly rewarding. It's not just about the competition, but about helping them realize their potential and feel important. These moments inspire me to push them further, showing them they can achieve greatness and make a difference, no matter the challenges they face. It's an experience I'll cherish forever.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I received $25,000, I'd likely put it toward paying off my student loan debt. Earning my bachelor’s degree was especially meaningful as my daughter was incarcerated during that time. Rather than turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms, I focused on my education and graduated just three weeks after she was released. I’d love to use some of the money to attend my graduation in Arizona, showing my kids that despite struggles, I’m a strong and determined woman.
