Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to be the safe, encouraging adult I needed when I was younger. There’s nothing better than watching a child finally “get it” and feel proud of themselves. Being part of their growth, confidence, and love for learning is the most rewarding job I could imagine.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments was watching a student who struggled with math finally gain confidence. She used to avoid answering out loud and would shut down during small groups. After weeks of encouragement and practice, she volunteered to answer the question to the class. The smile on her face when she answered it correctly and her classmates cheered is something I’ll never forget. It reminded me why this work matters so much.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would completely transform my classroom. I’d invest in diverse books, hands-on math and science materials and flexible seating to make learning more engaging. Working in a low income area, I’d also help cover field trips and basic needs for families who need extra support. It would go directly toward creating a safe, inspiring space where my students feel excited to learn every day.
