One of my most memorable experiences as a teacher was watching a student who once believed they were “bad at math” completely transform their mindset. At the beginning of the year, this student would shut down whenever we worked on math problems. They were quiet, hesitant to participate, and often said things like, “I can’t do this.” Instead of focusing only on the answers, I focused on building their confidence. I encouraged them to talk through their thinking and celebrated small wins.

If I were awarded the $25,000, I would invest it directly into creating meaningful learning opportunities for my students and strengthening the resources available in my classroom. A portion of the funds would be used to bring more hands-on materials and technology into my math and science lessons so students can experience learning in engaging and interactive ways. Providing tools that allow students to explore, experiment, and problem-solve helps make abstract concepts more meaningful.
