Yasmine Coulter

I love teaching because I am able to give the spark of learning to my students. I get to teach them to love science and all it entails.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to instill a love for learning, to create a safe space for students who might not have one at home, and to be a positive light in these students life.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

We had just finished learning about earth’s crust and tectonic plates, I took the entire 4th grade outside and set up two volcanic eruptions, one explosive one runny. The students absolutely loved it and were so excited. I am so happy I got to make a core memory of school for them.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would travel. I would go and visit places that I could take real pictures of to add in my lessons. I would buy a watershed table for my class because we just had a lesson on runoff and it would have been so amazing to have one instead of watching a video. It makes it so much more engaging when they can connect these ideas to real life experiences and places.
