Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe education changes lives. Growing up, I saw how one committed educator can open doors that once felt locked. I wanted to be that person for students especially those who may not yet see their own brilliance. Teaching allows me to empower, uplift, and challenge young minds to think critically and confidently. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a student move from “I can’t” to “I did.” I became a teacher to make learning meaningful to build leaders.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was working with a student who had completely shut down in math. She would put her head down, avoid eye contact, and whisper, “I’m just not good at this.” Instead of focusing only on the content, I focused on her confidence. We set small, achievable goals. I celebrated every correct step not just final answers. I connected math to real-life situations she cared about and reminded her daily that struggle is part of growth.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the $25,000, I would invest directly into expanding access and opportunity for my students. First, I would integrate high-impact instructional technology classroom devices, interactive math software, and data tools to personalize learning and close achievement gaps. In many high-poverty and rural settings, access is the barrier, not ability. I would also fund family engagement and enrichment experiences—math nights, college and career exposure trips, and student leadership workshops.
