Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to become the presence I once searched for. In spaces where reflections of me were rare, the few who stood in that light affirmed my worth and expanded my vision. Through a culturally responsive lens, I honor my students’ identities, voices, and lived experiences as assets. I teach to ignite purpose, affirm belonging, and cultivate a belief so deep that no barriers can derail or silence it.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences this year was as a first year coach, leading girls flag football to 3rd place in the district and boys track to 2nd overall in district championship, bringing home two trophies. But the real victory was the belief we built. Parents trusted me, students trusted me, and together we all trusted the process. We competed, we grew, we overcame, and we rose. These seasons showed me that true leadership builds confidence, unity and legacy far beyond.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I win $25,000, to be honest, some would help me and my family stand on truly solid ground and breathe a little easier. Teaching is HEART work, and that kind of support allows me to show up whole, present , and at my best. From there, I’d pour even more into my students, creating powerful experiences, hands-on learning opportunities while opening doors they deserve. When I’m supported, I can give without limits. When my students have access to resources, their learning capacity is endless!
