Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe education changes the trajectory of lives. Growing up, books opened my world and showed me possibilities beyond my circumstances. I wanted to create that same doorway for children. As a school librarian, I help students discover their voice, their curiosity, and their confidence. Teaching allows me to nurture thinkers, leaders, and compassionate humans who know they are capable of more than they ever imagined.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments was watching a reluctant reader find a book that reflected his life. He went from avoiding the library to asking for recommendations and sharing insights during discussions. Seeing his confidence grow as his reading improved reminded me why representation and access matter. That spark, when a child realizes they belong in the story and in the classroom, is unforgettable.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest in expanding diverse classroom libraries, STEM resources, and technology that fuels inquiry and creativity. I would host literacy and science engagement events that bring families into the learning journey and ensure every student sees themselves in the books they read. Personally, after walking through profound loss this year, this gift would also bring stability and breathing room, allowing me to continue pouring into my students with even greater focus and heart.
