Tell us why you became a teacher

Science education is extremely important in today's society. We are surrounded by complex issues such as climate change, Artificial Intelligence, and energy sustainability. I believe that every student, regardless of their future career, deserves the ability to interpret data, evaluate sources, and make informed decisions to contribute to their communities. I became a science teacher to help students learn these skills. It is my way of strengthening, not just individual futures, but communities.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I had my physics students perform a Slinky Seismology Lab to model P-waves and S-waves that are produced by earthquakes. These waves provide answers to the chemical makeup and state of matter for Earth's inner layers. Using slinkies and then guiding students to line up and simulate the wave with their own bodies, students visualized abstract concepts in a hands on way. Watching their curiosity turn into confidence and real understanding through peer discussions made this experience memorable!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would pay a large chunk of my student debt first to reduce the interest and stress. I would then set aside a summer's worth of expenses in a savings account. Lastly, I would like to donate to a teacher preparation program called Teacher TRAC. This program provides a guided pathway for college students wishing to become future educators in any subject area and grade level!
