Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe early childhood is where the foundation for lifelong learning is built. As a Spanish teacher for English-speaking children, I have the privilege of opening the door to a new language and culture while nurturing curiosity, empathy, and confidence. I wanted to create a classroom where children feel safe to take risks, celebrate differences, and discover that they are capable learners.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable experiences was watching a group of students who initially felt unsure about speaking Spanish begin using it naturally with excitement and pride. By the end of the year, they were singing, reading simple texts, and encouraging one another to try new words. Seeing them embrace a new language without fear reminded me that young children learn best through joy, connection, and meaningful experiences.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would enhance our dual-language learning environment by adding culturally rich classroom libraries, interactive language materials, sensory learning tools, and technology that supports early bilingual development. I would also create hands-on centers that integrate language, play, and collaboration, allowing students to experience Spanish authentically while building literacy and social-emotional skills. This investment would help every child feel engaged, included, and inspired to learn.
