There is something incredibly powerful about watching a student go from “I don’t get it” to “Wait… I get it now!” That moment—when confusion turns into confidence—never gets old. I became a teacher because I love explaining difficult concepts in ways that truly make sense. Teaching isn’t just a job to me; it’s a calling to help students believe in themselves.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Seven years ago, a student I taught in Algebra I and had in advisory had to drop out just two classes shy of graduation due to a difficult home life. I never stopped encouraging her. Last year, she returned with flowers and her GED to thank me for being the one teacher who never gave up on her. She said my words carried her through. That moment reminded me that teaching doesn’t end when a student leaves your class—it can last a lifetime.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 to provide resources, hands-on learning experiences, field trips, and enrichment opportunities that help my students succeed, grow, and see their potential. I want every student to leave my classroom knowing they are capable of more than they ever imagined.
