Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a school social worker because I believe every student deserves at least one adult who truly sees them and advocates for them. As a first-generation college graduate, I know how powerful guidance and support can be. I work to bridge gaps between home, school, and community so students feel supported everywhere they exist. I empower youth to use their voice, advocate for their needs, and recognize their strengths.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most meaningful experiences was launching our campus Zen Room, a dedicated wellness space for students. What began as an idea became a safe haven where students regulate, reflect, and reset. The space increased awareness of counseling services and reduced stigma around asking for help. By offering bilingual English and Spanish support, I've expanded access so more students and families feel welcomed and empowered to seek support.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If selected, I would use the $25,000 to support my health as I continue navigating cancer and related medical care. It would provide stability and space to focus on healing. I would also continue volunteering with Cake4Kids and invest in strengthening my baking skills so I can better serve the children. This award would give me the capacity to care for myself while continuing to show up for others.
