Tell us why you became a teacher

I have a deep calling to empower others. True fulfillment comes from helping people to pursue their calling with devotion. I am eager to turn complex ideas into simple, practical tasks that people can apply daily. My desire to teach sparked early. While my first-grade teacher cancel my request to read to kindergartners because she thought I was nostalgic, I was inspired by the joy of others reading to me. Today, I cherish the chance to serve those with the potential to make a real difference.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Many people believe they aren’t "math people," often due to past negative experiences. I once had a student who claimed to hate the subject. I challenged her: "If you didn't like math, you wouldn't manage your own money." I shifted her paradigm from "I can't do this" to "I haven't learned it yet." By providing strategies and encouragement, she embraced the effort and worked with tutors. She didn't just pass; she told me with a smile, "Thank you—you made math simple enough to understand."

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest first in our youth, purchasing the STREAM and math resources my students deserve but rarely access. I am also committed to strengthening the community summer camp my wife and I lead to ensure a lasting impact. Finally, I would pursue my doctorate—a dream deferred for caregiving. This degree will expand my influence, allowing me to mentor future educators to lead with the same passion and purpose I bring to my classroom every day.
