Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I have always had a passion for helping children grow. There is nothing better than watching a student understand something after they have been struggling so long. I also love building relationships with my students. Some students favorite part of their day is coming to school for stability and structure, and I take pride in being that security for them. Finally, watching my students grow academically, socially, and personally makes my job so worthwhile.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have had many memorable teaching experiences including watching a student grow after struggling, receiving hand written notes from former students telling you about their successes, etc. However, one that will always stick with me is my relationship to this day with a former student. She has a rough home life, and would come early every morning for support. To this day she still comes to my classroom window and blows me kisses, or waits until dismissal for a hug. These moments I cherish.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000 I would first pay off my student loans. Being a teacher on a strict income is difficult, and it's hard to pay off with only enough money to get by in life. Any extra money I would set aside to take my family on a vacation. Many times after work I am mentally exhausted, and as they say, "You can't pour from an empty cup." This would be so needed for my entire family and myself.
