I became a teacher because I’ve always loved coaching sports and mentoring young people. My elementary school principal, who has since passed away, once told me I was destined to give back to my community and those I lead. That conversation stayed with me and guided me into the classroom. Now, I’m passionate about teaching and aspire to move into administration to expand my impact.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences is creating my classroom store, BendO’s Reward Shack. It’s an incentive program that gives students the opportunity to earn rewards, snacks, and prizes for positive behavior and academic effort. Seeing their excitement, motivation, and pride when they’re recognized makes it more than just a store—it builds culture, accountability, and a sense of accomplishment in our classroom.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded the $25,000, I would pour it back into my STEM classroom by upgrading technology, expanding hands-on project materials, and creating more real-world learning experiences for my students. I would also invest in earning my master’s degree to obtain my administrative license, allowing me to expand my impact and continue serving students and educators at a higher level.
