Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher following my grandmother and mother’s footsteps as educators. I noticed that the education system lacked compassion and understanding from adults. At some point, we were all teenagers trying to find our way in what we assumed was a misunderstood world. I became a teacher to show students that you can succeed and become anything you want in life.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience would be a letter written to me from a student during teacher appreciation week. During this time, I told students to write a letter to a teacher that had an impact on their life. I received the letter from a student who stated that she was on the verge of quitting school. However, greeting her every morning with music and asking her how her day was made her want to finish. She went on to say that having me as a teacher gave her the extra push to make it.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, I would pay off much needed debt that has been hanging over my head for quite some time. Due to a medical condition, I’m not always able to afford copays. I would also use the money as a down payment for a home big enough for my mother to live with me. Lastly, I would stock my classroom with items my students need.
