Tell us why you became a teacher

Every since I was a kid I’ve known I wanted to teach. Watching as my siblings and peers changed their careers an ample amount of times I never changed mines. I knew I wanted to do something to give back, I knew I wanted to work with kids, and I knew I wanted to spread my knowledge. I combined everything and knew that teaching would be the way to go.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

As a first year teacher my most memorable teaching experience was just recently giving one my my students the knowledge and tools they needed to read. I asked my students at the beginning what was an ultimate goal of theirs and this particular student said it was their goal to read. We accomplished this together.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won the $25,000 I would donate half of it to an organization designed to help struggling readers as it’s at an all time high in Michigan and would be much needed. With the rest I would expand my knowledge and skills by going back to college for my Masters in ELA.
