Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because, at the age of three, I was already telling students what to do and being in charge. My love for children has truly inspired me to become so passionate about teaching my students. To see a student grow and learn is an inspiration for me every day. Students don't really care about what you know, but they know when you genuinely care about them. When I can see that sparkle in their eyes and them really engaging in my lesson, this is a natural high for me.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I remember teaching a lesson on Child Development, and I had a student in my class who was also expecting a baby. She learned so much from the class, especially for her, being a first-time mom. She was so inspired by my teachings that she asked me to be in the delivery room with her. I did go with her, and she and I are still in contact with each other to this day. I not only teach, but I also build relationships with my students. This was an awesome time to be a teacher in the classroom for me.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would give back to my school, which is in a very rural and impoverished area. I would continue to upgrade my classroom. Invest in myself to further my educational training and to pay off some of my student loan debts.
