Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because working with young children, helping them grow, and contributing to something bigger than myself lines up with my values and sense of purpose. I’ve persisted in teaching because the work is more than just a job. I enjoy working closely with kids every day and helping them love learning. I’m drawn to foundational skills, early social–emotional development, and being a steady, kind adult in a formative time of kids’ lives.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I don’t have just one, but my most memorable moments are the times when a struggling student finally felt seen, safe, and capable in my classroom. There was a student with big emotions who started the year disorganized and discouraged, but slowly began to believe “I can do this” because of patient reteaching and calm consistency. Also, when a family told me their child “finally loves school again,” confirming that the environment I built changed that child’s relationship with learning.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My vision is to create short, engaging science videos and companion lessons designed specifically for elementary students. The YouTube channel will serve as a widely accessible resource for families and teachers as well as live workshops. The content will focus on building curiosity and confidence, using simple materials that families and schools can realistically access. I want to use the 25,000 dollars to turn my classroom expertise into a broader resource for children and families.
