I love teaching because in foster care a teacher loved me out loud. My classroom was my safe place. Everyday I live to recreate that love.

I became a teacher because of the one educator who saw me when I felt invisible. While I was struggling through the weight and uncertainty of the foster care system, they were the person who made me feel like I truly mattered. I chose this path to be that same steady anchor for my students—to ensure that no matter what they are facing outside the classroom, they know they are seen, valued, and capable of a bright future.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable moment as a teacher was when a former student came back to visit. He told me that he deeply missed my class, not just for the lessons, but because it was the one place that truly felt like home to him. It was a powerful reminder that while we teach subjects, we first and foremost reach people.
What would you do with the $25,000?Honestly, I have been searching for a way to stay in the classroom, and this would be the answer. I would use the funds to pour directly back into my students, providing the resources they deserve. It would allow me to focus entirely on the work I love—shaping their futures—without the constant, heavy burden of wondering how I’m going to make it all happen.
