Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to be a part of something big! I love to get to know kids and their families and I was excited to be a part of their lives. I also became a teacher because I love to see the excitement and confidence build in each student as they discover how smart they are and what they CAN do! Being a part of their journey and helping them discover their potential is the most rewarding part of what I do.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have so many memorable experiences in the classroom and beyond over the last 30+ years that I have been teaching! I have been blessed to work in an environment that is healthy and growing! My most memorable experiences are with students that come in defeated, withdrawn, and even angry. To see them change from those attributes to ones of confidence, outgoing, and happy makes my heart sing with joy! Watching the transformation with a number of students has kept me going and growing!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would first give back to my school community by investing in my classroom as well as others. I would provide updated books, hands on learning resources, and technology. I would also create meaningful enrichment opportunities that spark curiosity, build confidence, and ensure every child has the tools that they need to succeed. If I am being honest, I would also use any leftover funds to invest in both my husband (he is also a teacher) and my health by making memories.
