Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to give back to the same community that raised me. Growing up in the DFW, I saw how education can open doors and change lives. I want my students, especially those from underserved communities, to see their potential, understand their history, and believe they can shape their future. Teaching allows me to serve, mentor, and help the next generation succeed.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience is when a student of mine’s family was in jeopardy of being deported and my student used information she learned in my social studies class to help her family being the process to citizenship and avoid deportation.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 to buy land to grow healthy food options for my family and my community. The land would also serve as a place where the youth of the community can come and learn about growing their own food and raising animals.
