Learn MoreI had a science teacher in high school Mr. Farrell who was also the hiking club advisor who would take us on these amazing hikes in the Santa Cruz mountains and point out all the plants, ecosystems and biomes. It made me fall in love with science and I have been teaching biology, chemistry and physics for around 20 years now.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceTaking my inner city Stockton kids to go do tide pool research at Asilomar state beach and watching a number of kids just freeze staring at the waves. When I asked them why they weren’t doing the activity, they said it was because they had never been to the beach and that they were just stunned by how big and beautiful it was. It reminded me why I became a teacher.
What would you do with the $25,000?I am the board president of a new community center called the Thomas Toy community center. I would give the money to them so they can go on some amazing field trips like I did back in high school in the hiking club.
