Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a special education teacher because I believe every student deserves patience, understanding, and the opportunity to succeed. I am passionate about helping students overcome challenges and build confidence. Watching students grow academically and personally is incredibly rewarding. I value creating a supportive environment where each child feels respected and capable. Being able to advocate for my students and celebrate their progress is what motivates me everyday.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One meaningful teaching moment was working with a nonverbal student learning sign language. At first, the student struggled to express needs and often became frustrated. Through daily modeling and practice, we learned simple signs together. One day, the student independently signed “help” for the first time. It was a small moment, but it showed growing confidence and reminded me how powerful communication and patience can be in special education.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I received $25,000, I would invest in assistive technology, sensory tools, and learning materials to better support my students’ diverse needs. I would also set aside funds for professional development so I can continue improving my skills and providing the best possible support for my students.
