Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I admired those that taught me in elementary and high school. They made learning fun and entertaining for me. I wanted to not only do that for others but also give African American students a teacher that looks like them.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I had a student come to me, working below grade level, shy with her peers and believed that she could not do the work because she was in resource. Through our connection she began to believe in herself and showed much academic and social growth. By the end of the year she was working on and slightly above grade level and made many friends.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I want to provide my students a comfortable and efficient learning environment. Providing them with comfortable and functional furniture, as well the learning materials they need to provide academic support. And use some money to pay off debt to help me continue providing for my students in the future.
