Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I enjoy children’s curiosity and energy. I wanted children of my own and wanted to be able to be employed with a job that had a schedule that would allow me to be with my children when they were not in school. I have been a preschool assistant, a kindergarten teacher, and worked as a para educator while working on my credentials. I became a credentialed teacher in my 40’s and am so grateful. I have worked with children of all ages and backgrounds.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The most memorable teaching experience I had was when a student that was non-verbal and wheel chair bound was being test. She was asked to show something red on the screen with her eye gazing head band. She looked at the bright red fire estinguisher in the wall instead of the option given on the computer screen. She looked at me and laughed! I thought what a clever girl. This moment made me what to continue my education as an education specialist with special needs students.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would take my students and their parents in a class trip. I would get my class and parents together and we would plan a wonderful trip that would include educational activities, socializing and FUN!
