Tell us why you became a teacher

I spent many hours of my childhood teaching my stuffed animals and my quite reluctant brother, math from an ancient text book my parents had saved. I helped my mother grade papers nightly and I felt that teaching was what I was meant to do. While in college, I learned more about special education and felt the call that this was the avenue I was meant to pursue. I have worked with every level of student but have hit my stride with 5th graders and have been here for years!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I would have to say that my most memorable times were earlier in my career. I worked at a small, one class per grade level, building which meant I spent multiple years with my special education students. I made lasting connections with those students and keep in touch to this day but I think the most memorable was a young boy who I spent 5 years with. While attending a board meeting, I was surprised to see him be honored for his character and work ethic as a senior. What a proud moment!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I am not exactly sure what I would do with $25,000. I have all sorts of future plans that I constantly save for...trips to fantastic places, updating my house, and helping others. I would love to do all of these things! The most likely answer is that I would continue to help my daughter pay for college so that she can live out her dreams as well.
