Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to provide children with opportunity and to give them a teacher who not only believes in the abilities to be successful but also someone who will motivate them and facilitate authentic learning experiences. By being selected as Americas Favorite Teacher it would allow me yet another chance to give my students a great opportunity by being exposed to the wonder and thought invoking experiences that are remarkable and notorious of the legendary Science genius of Bill Nye.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was creating a chemical reaction during my early years of teaching Kindergarten. Mento’s experiment that involved Coca Cola. Properties of combustion and compulsion blended with introducing my students with excitement and making inferences as we hypothesized what might happen when the two substances combined. To see the look of enthusiasm and them being fully immersed in the experience of learning was truly breathtaking and unforgettable.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the 25,000 prize to purchase science kits for my current 5th grade class so that they can incorporate more hands on learning in the classroom to enrich their lives and expose them to new experiences in investigating science concepts.
