Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because of my middle school theater teacher, who was my biggest support system. She believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and helped me grow in confidence and strength. Her classroom was a safe space where I felt valued and capable. I want to be that same catalyst in a students life- someone who supports, encourages, and helps them see their own potential when they need it most.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching moments was having a group of students I taught in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Over those years we built something special and became like a family. The students truly cared for and accepted one another, supporting and lifting each other up. By the end of the year they were in tears saying goodbye. Even now, years later, they still invite me to important moments in their lives, which means everything to me.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 to attend professional development and conferences that help me better support struggling students and improve my teaching. Investing in my growth directly benefits the students I serve. If allowed, I would also use part of the money to pay off personal debt. Like many teachers, I work hard but still face financial challenges, so this support would ease that burden while allowing me to continue focusing on my students.
