Tell us why you became a teacher

I began college planning to become a therapist, but I repeatedly felt drawn to supporting the mental health of young children during their most formative years. That realization led me to kindergarten, where I use therapeutic skills daily to build emotional regulation, confidence, and resilience while also teaching academics.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One memorable experience is witnessing the moment a child finally understands something that once felt impossible. Those “lightbulb” moments happen often and remind me why I teach. Creating a classroom where students feel safe, loved, and excited to learn—especially in a low-income school—allows children to build confidence, take risks, and discover their potential each day.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would help my six children continue their education and ease the financial burden of tuition and books. I would also purchase much-needed classroom supplies to better support my students. If funds remained, I would take a meaningful vacation with my husband of 27 years—his steady love and support make it possible for me to do the work I care so deeply about.
