I became a teacher initially because I loved learning and I wanted to share that love with my students. I also had amazing teachers who impacted my life and realized what a positive influence a great teacher can have on a child's development. Now that I've been teaching for 26 years being a teacher is so much more than that. I love being a person whom my students feel seen with! I love being able to provide comfort an care for kids who do not always receive that at home.

My most memorable teaching experience happened 9 years ago when my best friend and I taught 4th grade together. We had a very challenging group of kiddos who were not meeting academic goals. She and I made it our priority to ensure that these students succeeded academically and socially! We met each student where they were and identified their needs. At the end of the year, they all made growth and went on to have successful academic careers! I still miss them and love when they visit!

With the $25,000 I would create a "Take what you need closet"! This closet would have food, clothing, hygiene products, books and school supplies. Many of my students need a space like this to meet their basic needs without any judgement. The emotional support room also needs flexible seating and fidget toys. With the money that is left, I would like to take a girls weekend with some of my work friends because we all need a little rest and relaxation!
