I had a teacher in high school who went above and beyond to help me throughout the trials and tribulations of high school. He created an environment that made students feel safe and motivated to learn. I wanted to become that safe space for other students and help them the same way my teacher helped me. Becoming a teacher has allowed me the opportunity to learn and grow every day alongside my students, which is why I wanted this job. It may be challenging, but I love a good challenge!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My first year teaching was not the easiest, but I had an amazing group of students who helped me through it. When they were seniors, they surprised me with a gift I will never forget. They put together a video featuring my past students, each sharing different memories of our time in class. Some students included their favorite moments, something they learned, or a memory they will never forget. When they showed me the video, I knew that I had made the right choice in becoming a teacher.

What would you do with the $25,000?

The first thing I would do is buy a new class set of books for The Great Gatsby. I love teaching the novel each year, and my students really like it as well, so new books would be the first thing on my mind. I would also give back to my parents, who have helped me get to where I am in my career. Without them, this would not be possible. The last thing I would do is invest my money. I plan to teach for a very long time, and this money would help me when I reach the end of my career!
