Tasha Bumgarner Nail

My students are excited each day to learn. I’m grateful I get to help them reach their full potential, to love learning, and grow character.

Tell us why you became a teacher

My dad worked at the family sawmill his whole life until he lost his lower leg and foot in a freak accident. Instead of accepting disability and defeat, he went back to school, obtained his teaching degree, and went on to teach, coach, and run marathons into his 70’s. He was my inspiration for finishing school and becoming a teacher. I also enjoyed my job as a teacher assistant so I wanted to become a teacher myself. I love seeing the excitement on kids’ faces when they finally ‘get it’!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

During Covid, I did Zoom meetings with my kindergarten students every week to stay connected with them. While I missed them terribly, I loved being able to read animal stories to them while sitting outside with my chickens, dogs, and goats. It really brought the stories to life and allowed them to see my life outside of school.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would love to take a vacation somewhere tropical. It would also be nice to pay off my student loans and purchase a “new” (to me) car.
