Tell us why you became a teacher

My passion for teaching began with my grandmother, who was an educator. As a child, I would play school in my room because of her influence. That early inspiration grew stronger during student teaching, where I realized the true impact I could have. I am passionate about pushing students academically while also building their confidence and character, because I believe when students develop strong academics, drive, and positive behavior, they are equipped to truly thrive.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was my entire first year in the classroom. It was a year of tremendous growth and learning for me as an educator. Despite math not being my strongest subject, I embraced the role I was given and led my students to a +17 growth score on LEAP testing. I’m especially proud that while pushing for strong academic results, I also supported my students in navigating challenging academic and personal situations, teaching them resilience and confidence along.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were to win $25,000 as a teacher, I would use it to expand my impact beyond the classroom by creating a nonprofit or mentorship initiative program, fund a math/reading camp for my school, and I would also invest in my professional growth by attending conferences such as Get Your Teach On to continue strengthening my instructional practice. Also my students and school body would LOVE to see BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY 🧪🧑🏻‍🔬.
