Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe education is a powerful tool for uplifting students and strengthening communities. I am passionate about helping students develop pride in who they are and where they come from while recognizing their ability to create positive change. Through teaching, mentorship, and community engagement, I strive to empower students to set high academic goals, serve others, and see education as a pathway to opportunity and purpose.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teacher moment was during the 2021–2022 school year, when I became the sole 8th grade reading teacher, teaching all 165 students due to a vacancy not being filled. I shifted my focus to educating the whole child by balancing academic growth with emotional well-being. As I refined my instruction and built a supportive classroom culture, 75% of my students made significant growth, reaffirming that when students feel valued and challenged, they thrive.

What would you do with the $25,000?

First, I would ensure my classroom for the 2026–2027 school year is fully stocked with all necessary supplies. Then, I would focus on paying off my debt to fulfill my dream of becoming a homeowner.
