I have always been interested in expanding my knowledge, which led me into the education field to work with students on strengthening their academic abilities. I developed a passion for working with children who found the general education curriculum more challenging, and I shifted my demographic to special education. As a teacher, I believe implementing strong relationships at the root creates the core foundation for long-term academic success.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

In my classroom, I focus on enhancing literacy skills. I encourage students to celebrate their academic success by implementing high-interest incentives. During my second year evaluation cycle, as I was getting observed, one of my more reserved students shared that they received a 100% on a formative assessment to my principal and me, stating that I helped build their reading comprehension confidence by introducing multiple reading strategies.

What would you do with the $25,000?

For the last four years as a teacher, I have been so blessed to be supported by my community, including colleagues, friends, and family members who have always donated to my classroom. With the $25,000, I would be able to provide amenities and supplies for my students to enhance their learning. This would include flexible seating options within my classroom, building my supply closet for students in need, and using the remaining funds to introduce students to hands-on transition programs.
