Learn MoreI graduated with a degree in communications with an emphasis on advertising and public relations. I loved the creativity in the field but wanted to make an impact and leave a lasting legacy. I went back to college earning a Masters degree in elementary education with an emphasis on special education, literacy and TESOL. Working in the field and seeing the look on the children’s faces when they understand something they had previously struggled with is the exact reason I went into the field.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience was when I worked with a child with Down Syndrome. He found work difficult and as a result was shutting down. Writing was one of his biggest challenges. I helped him learn to type which he then used to communicate. I also created hands on lessons that motivated him to complete tasks. He has left a profound mark on who I am as a teacher. A picture of him hangs in my classroom as a reminder of the difference one teacher can have on a students life.
What would you do with the $25,000?As a kindergarten teacher I know the importance of a play based classroom but to set this up in a successful manner requires supplying my classroom with new material which in this market can get expensive. On a personal note I would also use the prize money to pay off debt accumulated during the adoption of my two children.
