Susanne Hebble

As a teacher of over 25 years I have seen the magic of reading come to life in every student I worked with. I’m blessed to help them do this

Tell us why you became a teacher

As a child I saw my father teach during bring your child to work day. I saw how his student's interacted with him and the joy they brought to him. I have always enjoyed working with children so I knew teaching would be a good avenue for me. I then focused on the area of reading due to the fact that I struggled greatly as a child. There was one teacher who always made me feel smart and capable; my reading teacher. I wanted to be able to make the same impact on children that she had on me.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moment of recent times was when I was helping a student with his reading fluency. He didn’t have confidence and often gave up feeling defeated. Then one day he read over 100 words per minute and began to jump up and down hooting and hollering. It was an awesome experience seeing the joy in his eyes.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I got $25,000 I would use money to help enhance my students experience within my room. I would purchase more multi sensory products to help my youngest readers. I would also invest in products to help our dyslexic readers.
