I became a teacher because I have always loved helping others understand difficult concepts. Growing up, I enjoyed supporting classmates who struggled, and seeing their confidence grow inspired me. I want to make a positive impact by guiding and encouraging students to reach their full potential. Teaching allows me to shape future leaders, scientists, and professionals while continuing to learn and grow alongside my students.

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was during our microbiomes and metabolism unit. Students were struggling to connect how microbes in the gut affect energy and overall health. Then came the “aha” moment when they realized how bacteria help break down food and influence metabolism. I could see the light bulbs turn on as they made connections between science and their own bodies. Those moments, when understanding clicks, are the most rewarding parts of teaching.

I would use the $25,000 to pay off some of my loans, which would relieve financial stress and allow me to focus even more on teaching. I would also purchase engaging supplies and updated lab materials to enhance hands-on learning in my classroom. Most importantly, I would celebrate with my students, definitely with a pizza party to thank them for their hard work and share the excitement.
