Steven Goldstein

I love teaching because it's the one job. That allows me to give back every day. I get to help students that no one else wants to work with.

Tell us why you became a teacher

As a kid, I was classified as a behaviorally, challenged student and was not well liked by anybody. But I had some amazing teachers over the years that taught me what I could be and what I should be. These were the teachers that found something in me that I did not know I had. They inspired me to become a special ed teacher working with behaviorally, challenged students. I felt that I had something most teachers didn't a insight into what it's like to be a troubled child.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There have been many amazing experiences in my life. When it comes to my students. The first student that I taught that out of special education and went to college. The first student to let me know the day they ded to use their anger in an industry where it was beneficial. In recent years, one of my most difficult students, has come back to let me know that he's doing well in high school and he's moving forward with his life. He appreciated the love that we were able to give him.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I had this money, I would spend it on my students. I have recently become obsessed with 3d printing and have learned how motivational it could be for students. I would love to have the funds to build a small 3D lab at our school. I would also use the funding to support our schools reward system. Urban schools have many wants that can not be fulfilled by the school system.
