Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe education is one of the most powerful tools for equity and opportunity. I wanted to be the adult who shows up for students every day, especially those who may not always feel seen or supported. Over the past 20 years of teaching , I have worked with students in an Autistic Support program, ELL students, and children experiencing homelessness. These experiences have reinforced my belief that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and capable of success.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was watching a student who struggled academically and socially finally find their confidence. After months of encouragement, small victories, and persistence, that student stood in front of the class to present their work with pride. The entire class erupted in applause. In that moment, it wasn’t just about the assignment — it was about a child realizing they belonged and were capable. Moments like that stay with you forever.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, I would invest it directly into creating more opportunities for my students. I would expand classroom resources that support diverse learners, including sensory tools for students in the Autistic Support program, additional materials for English Language Learners, and books that reflect the diverse identities and experiences of my students. I would also create more hands-on learning opportunities, field experiences, and enrichment programs.
