I simply had too much "mom" in me for just my four children; I needed to share that heart with the thousands of students I’ve taught. Family and Consumer Sciences has always been my passion—from cooking and sewing to child development and design. I love empowering the youth in my community with essential life skills, helping them gain the confidence to function in the real world and create a home of their own.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moment began in the classroom but truly came to fruition at a local drive-thru. When I pulled up, my former students literally cheered! They shouted that they had landed their jobs thanks to the skills and Food Handler Permits they earned in my lab. While the work started at a school stove, seeing them confidently earning their own paychecks in the "real world" was my true reward. It proved my lessons aren't just for a grade—they are their first steps into adulthood.

What would you do with the $25,000?

After my husband faced a period of unemployment following the pandemic in 2020, we’ve worked hard to navigate the aftermath. Receiving $25,000 would allow us to finally clear those lingering bills and settle the medical expenses my son and I have accumulated. For me, this isn’t just about the money; it’s about the peace of mind that comes with financial stability. It would allow our family to finally close that difficult chapter and look forward.
