Teaching is truly an art. We get clean canvases in the fall, and by end of year they’re beautiful, flawless masterpieces.

I was late to the teaching world. I started at 27. I actually started as an assistant when I was a single mom for the hours. I fell in love with it, and before I knew it I was teaching my coworkers class and getting a Master’s in teaching. I am now in year 9 and still love everything about my job. It has truly become a part of my identity.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable moment was in my second year. I had a student that seemingly hated me- he had a hard home life and it was hard in the beginning. By the end of the year he grew to trust me, and me him. I became his “favorite” and every year he still tells me I’m his favorite ever. He’s now in 7th grade and I had him in Kindergarten. It just proves that what we do matters- relationships matter.
What would you do with the $25,000?I’d definitely put some back in my classroom. As a teacher we aren’t paid much, so I’d pay down some debt. I’d love to donate to the community of Starkville as well.
